At the age of just 36, Mark Williams is snooker's history man. Today's World Championship semi-final will be his first in eight years. Not since he won the title for the second time in 2003 has the Welshman made it this far. Three years ago, even that milestone was unthinkable as Williams, bereft of form and inspiration, slipped to 47 in the provisional world rankings and headed towards retirement.
